JOB DESCRIPTION
Gardens Manager – the Head Gardener
role:
This role is based in the heart of the Blenheim Palace World Heritage Site
gardens. It is a hands-on and mainly outdoors role comprising of general
maintenance and upkeep of the gardens including the greenhouses and kitchen
garden. This person will work as part of the onsite gardens team in keeping the
Gardens at Blenheim truly special for our guests.
There will be opportunities to work flexibly within the wider Estate Team in the
World Heritage Site as required.
Responsibilities:
• General gardening duties including the care for, and operation of
machinery and equipment as required
• Perform such tasks as Lawn care, edging, hedge cutting, weeding and
soil cultivation
• Path maintenance using rollers, Wacker plates, rakes and tractors
• Where necessary work in the greenhouses and Kitchen Garden
planting, growing and maintaining plants, fruit and vegetables
• Identifying the presence of and controlling common pests and
diseases. Training will be provided if required.
• Maintaining high levels of Health and Safety at all times
Knowledge:
• RHS level 2 in Horticultural is desirable but not essential
• A background knowledge of Horticulture is essential with a minimum of
3 years’ experience working as a Gardener in a similar setting being
desirable
• Knowledge and experience in pest control is desirable but not essential
as training will be provided
• Experience of operating machinery is again helpful
• The qualification in the use of chainsaws is desirable but not essential
for this role.
• The qualification in the safe use of knapsack sprayers is desirable but
not essential.
